Graphics: Usual stock TA graphics but the shallows add a lot to it. Kbots stand with waist
above the water, but many tanks will be mostly or totally submerged. Really adds
to the look of war in the shallows. Also all the splash effects look great.
-----
Mechanics: Amphibous assaults all work as advertised. The shores are all smooth as can be.
Also, the trees block off heavy sea craft early in the game like they should. Also
if a tree lights on fire the entire island goes up in flames every time.
-----
Gameplay: The shallows add a lot of new depth to the battles. If you choose to use a short
enough unit like a flash it will be totally submerged in the water. This means he
will be invinsible to all but torpedoes and depth charges until he reaches the
enemy. Or you could choose the taller Bulldogs and shoot stuff while in the water.
That will however leave them open to all forms of attack. Missile units tend to do
poorly since the water protects most crafts as the missle submerges to hit the
bases of most units. Also, you could try hover craft, though their weak armor makes
navagating the tree filled marsh quite deadly for them. Aircraft can play a small
role, but be advised you will have to get wet. Bertha's will barely hit the island
just opposite of it across the map. So if you want to take out the enemy's shipyards
you'll have to take a swim or take and hold the middle of the map as a bertha
platform. Since the middle islands hold steamvents the early game should be plenty
hot and heavy. Also, don't forget you can bring most of your navy into the marshes.
-----
Overall: Overall I think this whole Marsh idea is very underdeveloped in the TA world. I would
like to invite more people to create maps filled with shallow water. I truely enjoy
this map and would like to see what others could cook up.
